PTAA Instructional
League Rules 1) All defensive players play the field each inning. A player should be positioned at each of the following positions: Pitcher, 1st Base, 2nd Base, Shortstop and 3rd Base. All additional players should be placed in the outfield. 2) A continuous batting order will be used. Generally, a half an inning should conclude when 5 runs are scored, 3 outs are made or 8 batters have batted which ever comes first. However, coaches may mutually agree to end each half inning strictly based on number of batters, this should be limited to no more than 8. An exception to this could be in the last inning you may want to end the half inning after the last batter in your line-up has batted. PLEASE NOTE: THE LONGER A HALF OF AN INNING TAKES TO COMPLETE THE MORE DIFFICULT IT IS TO KEEP THE KIDS ENGAGED. 3) No more than 7 pitches should be thrown to any batter in a single at bat. If the batter has not placed the ball in play after 7 pitches, YOU MUST USE THE TEE. Please remember, the batting tee is an excellent instructional tool for any age group. 4) The coaches based on the pace of the game and the players’ interest level should mutually decide the number of innings played. However, on Saturday’s when there is a team behind you must be off the field within your allotted two-hour time frame. 5) You should stress good fundamentals when coaching the kids, including but not limited to: base running, proper swing technique and proper fielding (catching) and throwing technique. 6) No score should be kept and standings are not maintained. ABOVE ALL – HAVE FUN !!!!! |
